Today was a challenging day and if cravings could be compared to a disaster, today was Armageddon. I woke up feeling fine – no mental fog and no physical fatigue. I ate my breakfast peacefully and really enjoyed it, but after a couple of hours this insatiable craving for meat possessed me. At first I just wanted to taste it in my mouth, but then I started to crave it all over. The cravings were powerful, like I was being compelled by a force outside of myself. I was clenching my teeth at some points due to the insanely powerful need to savor and chew cooked meat. It was beef that I was craving. Poor little cows, to think all these years I’ve been a slave to my taste-buds. I was wondering why I had these intense cravings, so I did a little reading. I will post my findings after I am done with the experiment. On to breakfast.
Breakfast
Today I decided that I needed to eat more food in order not to lose too much weight. I figured I would devour a bunch of bananas and hope for the best. I ate the five in the picture along with the grapefruit as well. I felt stuffed - even though the meal was still low on the calories side.

- organic bananas (426g)
- grapefruit (449g)
I felt pretty full after this, so I think I will incorporate more snacks throughout the day, rather than try to force myself to eat a lot of food in one sitting.
Post-Breakfast Snack
- almonds (86g)
- golden-yellow apples (92g)
I ate this snack after breakfast, I didn’t want to be over-stuffed. I don’t like that stuffed feeling. Makes me feel like I’m a turkey.
From now on I will try to eat more snacks. This will increase my calorie intake still allow me to fit through doorways.
Lunch
Mmmmmm, delicious!

- mango (147g)
- blackberries (187g)
- cashews (78g)
- salad: Italian salad (280g), orange pepper (27g), yellow pepper (45g), organic tomatoes (84g), avocado (49g)
- salad dressing: mango (81g), avocado (46g)
- glass of water
A simple salad with some fruit. Feels like I’m eating ambrosia.
Dinner
I was looking forward to dinner, not because I was hungry, but because I was going to eat a nice big salad with onions and garlic dressing. I love onions and garlic, but can’t eat them too often because of the bad breath factor. I’ve tried brushing my teeth and nuking my mouth with mouthwash, but anything short of an exorcism doesn’t help much. Also keep in mind that you are what you eat. So if you eat garlic and onions more than a little bit, it will seep out of your pores in the coming days.
While on the first trial, I ate a lot of garlic one night and the next day friends told me I had a bad smell on me. They also asked me if I had eaten garlic. I smelled much like a person who drinks alcohol regularly or a person who smokes cigarettes on a daily basis. I had the smell. You know that distinctive smell they have when they come by. Today that was going to be me. Since I stayed in, I treated myself to a the onion and garlic salad. Hey, I haven’t had a vampire bite yet!

- mango (226g)
- strawberries (235g)
- green salad: organic iceberg lettuce (150g), radicchio salad (29g), organic tomatoes (279g), organic cucumbers (128g), organic onions (54g)
- salad dressing: organic banana (42g), organic carrot (39g), organic baby spinach (18g), organic garlic (8g), 1 T lemon juice, ½ cup water
- glass of coconut water
This meal was uplifting and made me feel fantastic. I’m really starting to like making salads now. I also combine fruits and veggies to make dressings that make the salads even better. I’m looking forward to new combinations in the future.
Vitals
Weight: I’m down another 1 lbs from Day 5. Down to 182 lbs. I take this measurement in the morning and I did eat a whole lot more food today so I hope I can increase this weight.
Body Temperature: My temperature today was 98.2 °F. Seems I’m not going down in temperature.
pH levels: The pH level today was still an average of 7.0 for most of the day.
Blood Pressure: My blood pressure seems steady. The systolic was at 129 and diastolic at 70. Still in pre-hypertension range though.
Endurance: I did not go to the gym today, so I could not put this to the test.
Strength: I felt pretty strong, but like I said, I didn’t go to the gym.
Cognitive Capacity: For the most part, I felt pretty normal today. Like the rainstorm was over and the clouds were clearing out. I was focused, but nothing beyond my usual ability.
Hi,
First of all, congratulations on doing so well your first week, I know it’s really hard. I also started on April 1st again, after “falling off the wagon” since late January. I found it interesting that when I ate cooked food again, I felt the fogginess, confused, I’d lose my thoughts, I was even starting to forget words for things. Wow! That’s never happened to me before. Since April 2nd, I feel like I’ve “woken up”. I’m glad you’re writing this, I had decided to keep a daily log like yours too, but mine isn’t as upbeat and interesting. I’ll be reading your blogs daily to give me some inspiration, so my motivation can grow. I’m also reading this book I bought called 80/10/10 by Dr. Graham on how to eat raw food correctly. I’m learning new things, and you’re right, when one reads about raw, it really does help redirect the way one feels & think about cooked foods, so I’m less like to cheat.
Well, the reason I’m writing is that I noticed you wrote that the garlic you ate on day 3 was causing you to tear up & on day 6 you say you ate so much garlic that you stunk the next day. You had also stated in the beginning that you were not going to use spices in this experiment. Onions & garlic are spices, not food (in a sense). Think about it this way, you can eat a big bowl of oranges, or a big bowl of bananas, or a big bowl of blueberries and feel great. But would you ever eat a big bowl of raw onions? Or a big bowl of garlic? Or a big bowl of cilantro or parsley? How would you feel afterwards?
I once made myself a yummy big salad and cut up a whole raw red onion into it cause I love red onions in my salad. So I thought the more the better. I loved it. Then ten minutes later my stomach was burning. I didn’t know why. I could actually feel every bit of the lining in my stomach just burning. I went online & tried to figure out what I did wrong. After that episode, I’d have to agree with what I read – onion is not a food, it’s a spice. We shouldn’t be eating it, it irritates our linings, it numbs our taste buds (making us crave “tastier” cooked food), and a bunch of other bad things. The bad smell you have is your body trying desperately to get rid of it through many ways, including through your pores. Your body does not want it, and it’s trying to heal you by getting it out of your body as quickly as possible. You may notice your urine will smell pungent too. Raw onions & garlic are irritants to our system & don’t do anything to help us. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love them. So every once in a while I will use onions, but now I use the very least that I can to still have a tasty salad. Same for garlic, just one garlic has so many cloves in it, I’ll only use half of a clove. Maybe since you’re used to cooking the onions and garlic (which takes a lot of the harsh taste away, so you use more in your cooking) you’re using the same amount while you’re eating raw.
Since you wrote you weren’t using salt – then I’m sure you know that salt is also an irritant to our bodies & I thought you might be open to what I have to say. It doesn’t mean that I don’t eat onions, garlic, cilantro, & salt sometimes, but since I know they’re not the best things for me, I try to avoid them more. I hope my advice helps. Sorry if I overstepped my bounds, I don’t know you, so I don’t know if you want to hear this or not. I do wish you success!
This is a quote from a website:
The substance in onions which gives them their characteristic odor and flavor is mustard oil, a volatile oil which is highly toxic. Its vapors are so irritating that they cause profuse watering of the eyes just by being in contact with the vapors for a few seconds. This oil, if applied directly to the skin, would cause extreme redness and blistering. Anyone can testify to the fact that after they have eaten onions, even if it was only a small amount, the onion smell stays in their breath for a long time afterwards. The body eliminates much of this toxic oil through the breath as it attempts to get rid of this poison from the system.
